Cellar tour
Season: Year-roundPort wine cellar tour in Gaia
- See port ageing in oak casks and vats
- A tasting of two or three ports

Planning
Two days is enough to fall in love with Porto. This plan covers the highlights at a comfortable pace, with time for long lunches and the city’s famous sunsets. Wear comfortable shoes: Porto is steep.
Start at São Bento station to see its tile panels before the crowds, then walk up to Porto Cathedral for the view over the old town. Wander downhill through the narrow lanes to Ribeira.
After lunch by the river, walk across the lower deck of the Dom Luís I Bridge to Vila Nova de Gaia for a port cellar tour and tasting.
Take the Gaia cable car or walk up to Jardim do Morro for sunset, then cross the upper deck of the bridge back into Porto as the lights come on.

Book an early slot at Livraria Lello, then climb Clérigos Tower next door for the panorama.
Walk to Rua de Santa Catarina to see the tiled Capela das Almas, and have lunch at or near the Bolhão market.
Take a Six Bridges cruise from Ribeira to see the city from the water.
Ride historic tram line 1 along the river to Foz do Douro and watch the sun set over the Atlantic, then have dinner at a seafood restaurant.
With a third day, head upriver to the Douro Valley. Read Douro Valley day trip: tour, train or cruise? to choose how.
